COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Every year, impaired drivers cause thousands of traffic deaths and injuries. Law enforcement officers play a leading role in getting these drivers off our nation’s roads, but must be skilled in detecting impaired drivers and administering the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFST’s). This refresher course will assist participants in becoming more proficient in recognizing and interpreting evidence of DUI violations; administering and interpreting the SFSTs.

This four-hour class consists of classroom and hands-on training, which includes practice labs where participants take turns administering the SFST’s to one another and either to volunteers who consume alcohol or by viewing National Highway Traffic Safety Administrations (NHTSA) and International Association of Chief Police (IACP) approved videos to assess the subject’s impairment and record observations of SFST performance.
