Training Goals: To help officers in the field understand:

·         When electronic recording of interviews is required

·         The interplay between required electronic recording of interviews under 725 ILCS 5/103-2.1 and the prohibited recording of conversations under the “Eavesdropping Law”.

·         Applying tactical options for recording interviews and conversations in encounters with the public.

Course Content:

1.      Mandatory recording - the fundamentals – “custodial interrogation”

2.      Interrogations required to be electronically recorded

3.      Electronic recording defined

4.      Place of detention

5.      The consequence for failure to record

6.      The exceptions to the presumption of inadmissibility per 103-2.1(e)

7.      The interplay between 725/ilcs/103-2.1 and 720/ilcs 5/14-1
