COURSE CONTENT:
This course discusses cultural core prototypes of African-Americans, Asians, Bosnian, Muslims, Hispanics, the LGTB community, and the culture of poverty. The information helps culturally equip Officers when interviewing victims, handling domestic and CIT incidents, as well as community policing in diverse demographics.
This course examines verbal and nonverbal patterns of law-abiding citizens in each cultural group, with tools to aid Officers in “accurate reading” of behavior when police contact is made. It discusses social media’s role in snow-balling false stereotypes & enclave perceptions and beliefs against law enforcement.
It discusses pragmatic methods for building trust relationships between law enforcement & diverse publics. It discusses the importance of a department social media policy to protect careers & reputations.
It discusses the importance of policing from within the profession. It emphasizes the significance of constructively releasing the pent-up frustrations resulting from negative disrespectful contacts.
