COURSE CONTENT: This course is designed to teach the constitutional and legal aspects of the Use of Force in a Rapid Deployment/Immediate Action environment and practice the techniques and tactics specific for dealing with active shooters.
It will involve scenario based decision making, some involving the use of simunitions. This method stresses the swift and immediate deployment of law enforcement resources to an ongoing, life-threatening, “active shooter” type situation. Failure to act could result in death and/or great bodily harm to innocent people. These incidents also require that patrol officers contain and prevent the escape of the offender, and rescue downed officers or civilians.
Topics addressed during the scenario based course include:
Team formation - Room clearing - First responder’s responsibilities - Contact and rescue teams
Use of force and safety priorities - Equipment and identification requirements -Response to explosive devices - Verbal skills -Safe firearms handling skills in team dynamics
Students are required to bring:
Eye and ear protection, Duty leather and pistol, Duty flashlight, Soft body armor, Ballistic helmet, if available. Ballistic shield, if available, Department issued shotgun or tactical carbine, if available (Should be equipped with slings – no bolt action rifles)
Comfortable clothing and boots suggested (fatigues/BDU’s).
Note: Students will participate in multiple exercises and can expect to get dirty during tactical exercises.
NO LIVE AMMUNITION ALLOWED AT TRAINING
