COURSE CONTENT:

Juvenile officers have a unique role, not only in enforcing laws but also in responding to family problems in a compassionate and effective manner. Their position requires them to act as protectors of youth and society as a whole, by investigating criminal acts for findings of "delinquency and in supporting youths in growing out of adolescence" without experiencing the stigma of police involvement.

This online, web-based training program has been designed by NEMRT, along with experts from the fields of juvenile law, social work, and law enforcement, to provide newly-assigned or promoted juvenile officers with the skills, knowledge, and behaviors needed for success in the position.

Officers who take this web-based course and pass the examination given at the end of the mandatory review session will be Illinois state-certified Juvenile Officers - just as if they had attended a traditional classroom training course.

To gain access to the web-based program, departments must have purchased the program through NEMRT.  Individual officers will then be able to log in and review the course materials online through the NEMRT website.

Departments are to register their officers for the review/test date as listed above with MTU1. The review session is conducted by an instructor prior to administering the test.

OFFICERS MUST HAVE VIEWED THE ONLINE COURSE CONTENT PRIOR TO THE REVIEW/TEST DATE. Officers must attend the mandatory review/test date to receive certification. If your officer has not completed the online portion seven days prior to their registered review/test date, please contact MTU1. Failing to do so will result in a billing of $75.00.

For information on how to gain access to the web-based program go to the MTU1 website and see the page 40 hr. Specialist page, located under the “Training” tab.
