A Message From Rita Burke

Dear Family, Friends, Colleagues and Law Enforcement Officers,Kevin will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery on April 1, 2016 with services beginning at 12:45 with a Catholic Mass at the "Old Chapel." You may wish to be a little early and plan for D.C. traffic, which, fortunately, is better at this time of day than any other time. The Mass will be followed by a procession to the grave site with a horse drawn caisson, a marching band, a marching escort of troops, and color guard.Though Kevin was very humble and would never have chosen this honor for himself, our family chose that he be buried at ANC with "full military honors." He earned this honor because of his combat service in Viet Nam where he was awarded the Silver Star, 2 Purple Hearts, and the Bronze Star, any one of which would qualify him for "full military honors." His whole life after Viet Nam was one of complete dedication to his family and to the service of others in his work as a Secret Service agent, DuPage County prosecutor, U.S.Customs attorney, college professor, and legal writer and instructor for thousands of Illinois law enforcement officers over the last 25 years, and in his volunteer advocacy for people with severe developmental disabilities, like our son, Brian. Please know that we welcome all who are able to join us in this honor for Kevin. All present will be invited to a reception immediately following the funeral services at the Officers' Club at Ft. Myer (Ft. Myer is the installation inside of which the cemetery sits).Though it is not necessary, I would love to hear from you if you believe you might attend. You can contact me at explorerra@aol.com with the subject line, "Kevin Burke's burial at Arlington," or call my cell phone anytime at 618-559-1790.Thank you so much.Rita Burke and the Burke Family278 Poplar Camp RoadMakanda, IL 62958
