Data collection now permanent; new task force created

Governor JB Pritzker, today, signed HB1613, which makes permanent the collection of data during traffic and pedestrian stops. The requirement was set to expire July 1, 2019, after several extensions. But now it is permanent.

The law also creates a new Traffic and Pedestrian Stop Data Use and Collection Task Force, an independent task force under the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority (not IDOT), which is tasked with studying “the best use of technology to collect, compile, and analyze the traffic stop statistical study data required by this [law].” This is part of Public Act 101-0024
