COURSE CONTENT:  The primary goal of this course is to provides trainees with the core skills they will need to operate on a team. It will provide formative training to entry level SWAT operators.  The curriculum will allow graduates to be operationally ready upon graduation.

  • Weapon capabilities & required equipment
  • Handgun positioning & techniques
  • Close quarter combat
  • Cover vs. concealment
  • Setting up plans of operation and intelligence gathering
  • Setting up perimeters & sectorization
  • Hostage situations
  • Chemical munitions/distraction devices/less lethal
  • Stress shooting, moving & shield shooting
  • Breeching techniques
  • Building entry, covert stealth probe
  • Bombs, booby traps, explosive entries
  • Rifleman vs. sniper/observer
  • Arrest teams and tactics
  • Rapid deployment
  • Legal considerations


Students will need the following equipment:

*  Body armor-tactical if available

*  Eye protection/Ear protection

*  Duty weapon handgun and tactical holster/gear

*  Flashlights—tactical if available

*  Gloves

*  Tactical equipment assigned to officer

*  350 rounds of handgun ammunition

*  Rifle (AR-15, MP-5, etc.) and 50 rounds ammunition

*  S.W.A.T. uniform and equipment if available, otherwise BDU’s preferably and gear for outdoor weather

*  Water hydration system (canteen, camel back, etc.)



This course will have a written examination.  Shooting will be done at an indoor and outdoor range.
