This class has been approved by ILESTB to meet the following mandates:
Procedural Justice 3 hours
De-escalation Techniques 16.50/14 Hours Scenario Based
Officer Safety Techniques 11.50/9 Hours Scenario Based
Class Objectives:
Within law enforcement, there lies no shortage of instructors, but a shortage of good instructors. The main objective of this class is to build and mentor new firearms instructors, specific to the AR15/Patrol Rifle platform, who can then go back to their agencies with knowledge of the subject, effective delivery of the material, and a desire to continue to grow and evolve as instructors. Upon successful completion of this instructor level course, students will be able to return to their agencies with the knowledge and ability to run qualifications, craft lesson plans, teach in service training, and develop drills and scenario-based training for their agency, all based on the AR15 platform. Class will be a mixture of classroom lecture, range demonstration and instruction, teach backs, and live and dry fire drills to build instructors.
Student Assignments:
Active participation, successful passing of live fire qualification, written test, and all teach backs.
Student Gear and Materials:
Students are required to bring the following to class each day:
- Complete Duty Belt with holster and flashlight
- Duty Handgun with 3 magazines (weapon light if authorized)
- Duty Patrol Rifle and minimum of 3 rifle magazines
- Note taking material
- 700 rounds of rifle training ammunition, 100 rounds of pistol training ammunition> NO GREEN TIP AMMUNITION
- Ballistic Vest
Safe weapon handling must be a constant priority to every firearms instructor. A momentary lapse of safety can result in the needless death or serious bodily injury of someone on the range. Your co-workers, friends, family, and the public are put at risk if you do not maintain safety awareness. Whether on or off duty, in the home, the office or even in a high stress environment, we cannot afford to allow complacency or mental preoccupation to lead to the unintentional discharge of a firearm.
