COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This class is designed for patrol officers and will allow them to utilize their new skills to interdict suspects and victims involved in human trafficking.  The student will understand how human trafficking works, the terminology, and indicators of human trafficking and how to interact with both the suspect and the victim.  The student will also be able to gather evidence from different areas to include electronics, to assist in providing advocacy for any possible victims and to move forward with a possible criminal case against the trafficker.

Conducting the initial part of a human trafficking investigation can be a complex, confusing and different from other types of investigations.  Having a good understanding and knowledge of human trafficking is key and will help the officer not only recognize and understand what criminal activity may be afoot, but how to handle the victim in a trauma centered approach.  This approach will not re-victimize the victim and allow for a path moving forward in a possible criminal prosecution.  The course also uses videos and case studies of both incidents and survivors to help the officer understand the principles being taught and how to apply them.
