COURSE GOALS
This course is designed to prepare law enforcement officers in the legal, technical, and practical aspects of the interception of private communications and related investigation and prosecution techniques.
STUDENT PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
Understand the requirements for participating in a non-consensual intercept (725 ILCS 5/108B) Partial funding provided by Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board and MTU#1’s request for certification of this course has been approved by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board
This course has been certified by ILETSB and approved to meet the following mandates:
Lead Homicide Investigator - 8 Hrs.
Civil Rights – 1 Hr.
Legal Updates - 1 Hr.
Procedural Justice - .5 Hr.s
Constitutional & Proper Use of LE Authority – 4.5 Hrs.

- Understand a basic understanding of the Illinois Eavesdropping Statutes.
- Understand the differences between Federal Title III and Illinois Statute.
- Understand listening post requirements.
- Understand the proper documentation and evidence handling procedures.
- Understand minimization pertaining to communication interception.
- Understand the technical aspects of communication interception.
- Participation in a practical exercise.
