Course Description:  This is a 40-hour basic police sniper course.  The purpose of this course is to train and certify SWAT operators as sniper/spotter teams.  Operators will be trained in the use of observation and precision rifle fire to ensure the best possible outcome to a SWAT incident.  Live fire and range components will be held at various locations in and around Rockford and Rochelle, Illinois.

  • DOPE recording 
  • Moving target engagements 
  • Positional shooting 
  • Hide construction 
  • Stress shooting 
  • Command and coordinated fire 

Required equipment: 
  • Precision rifle capable of 1 MOA or better. NO HUNTING RIFLES 
  • Small soft bag/ Sand sock 
  • 400 rds. ammunition of match ammunition from the same lot 
  • Data book 
  • Hide construction materials if available 
  • Ghillie suit if available 
  • Tri-pod w/ saddle if available 
  • Hide vehicle if available 
  • Pack for equipment 
  • Ear protection
 
Class schedule is:
Monday -Wednesday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Thursday – 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Friday – 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, class is shot at an outdoor range and is a full day of shooting. Students are encouraged to bring a lunch and proper hydration for a day on the range.  

This course has been certified by the ILETSB and approved to meet the following mandates:

  • De-Escalation Techniques - 10 hours / 10 hours scenario based
  • Officer Safety Techniques - 20 hours / 16 hours scenario based
  • Use of Force – 5 hours
  • Legal Updates - .5 hours
