PURPOSE OF COURSE: This 1 day, program has been designed by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board to provide students with the required training in use of police personnel within the school setting in accordance with SB 2925 (PA 100-984). SROs must be police officers of law enforcement agencies who are to serve within a school setting pursuant to a memorandum of understanding between the employing law enforcement agency and a school district within the agency’s jurisdiction. Any officer serving in this role as of January 1, 2021 must have a special certification issued by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (“Board”). Such officers must have attended a special training, or attained a waiver by the Board, before they can serve in this role.
COURSE OVERVIEW: This course consists of the two primary components addressed in the curriculum: Juvenile Law, Officer and Youth Interactions. Students will participate in guided discussions/lectures, interactive activities and performance-based exercises.
This course is designed for SROs who have already completed an 8hr Active Threat Response scenario-based course that is required for ILETSB SRO Recertification. All officers will receive their SRO Recertification application during this course.

COURSE GOALS: To ensure that those Illinois law enforcement officers serving as an SRO have met the requirements of PA 100-984, and are familiar with the knowledge, skills and abilities as related to Juvenile Law, Officer and Youth Interactions.
This course has been certified by the ILETSB and approved to meet the following mandates:

- Legal Updates – 3.0 hours
- Procedural Justice - .50 hours
- Reporting of Child Abuse and Neglect - .50 hours
