PURPOSE OF COURSE: This 16-hour AR-15 Armorer Certification Course is designed for law enforcement personnel responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and serviceability of AR-15/M4-pattern rifles used in agency operations. The course provides students with a structured understanding of the rifle's major components, operating systems, maintenance requirements, common wear and failure points, and agency-level armorer responsibilities. Through classroom instruction and supervised hands-on training, students will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to safely diagnose malfunctions, perform authorized maintenance and component replacement, verify proper function, and maintain departmental rifles in a reliable and serviceable condition. Emphasis is placed on safety, proper procedures, manufacturer specifications, documentation, and adherence to applicable agency policies and procedures.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: The AR-15 Armorer Certification Course provides law enforcement personnel with the foundational knowledge and practical skills necessary to serve as an agency-level armorer for AR-15/M4-pattern rifles. Instruction begins with an overview of the rifle's design, operating systems, major components, and the relationship between individual components and overall weapon function. Students will examine common sources of wear, damage, and malfunction and learn how proper inspection, preventive maintenance, and service procedures contribute to the reliability and safe operation of agency firearms.
The course incorporates classroom instruction and supervised hands-on training focused on armorer-level maintenance and troubleshooting. Students will learn to identify and evaluate component condition, perform authorized disassembly and reassembly, conduct inspections, replace appropriate service components, diagnose common functional issues, and perform post-maintenance function checks. Instruction emphasizes the use of proper tools and procedures, adherence to manufacturer specifications and agency policies, and accurate documentation of maintenance and repairs.
Upon completion, students will have a practical understanding of the responsibilities associated with maintaining AR-15/M4-pattern rifles within a law enforcement environment. The course is intended to improve departmental capability to identify maintenance concerns before they become reliability or safety issues, establish consistent armorer practices, and support the safe, dependable service of agency-issued rifles. Students should complete the course with the knowledge necessary to perform armorer duties within the scope of their agency's policies, applicable law, and manufacturer guidance.
