Officers must have attended an 8-hour Rapid Deployment Training in Order to attend this class
COURSE CONTENT: This two-hour review is designed to refresh officers in the Rapid Deployment/Immediate Action techniques and tactics for dealing with active shooters in buildings. This method stresses the swift and immediate deployment of law enforcement resources to an ongoing, life-threatening, “active shooter” type situation. These situations require immediate action and the rapid deployment of patrol officers. Failure to act could result in death and/or great bodily harm to innocent people. These incidents also require that patrol officers contain and prevent the escape of the offender, and rescue downed officers or civilians.
Topics addressed during the scenario based course include:
Team formation - Room clearing - First responder’s responsibilities - Contact and rescue teams
Use of force and safety priorities - Equipment and identification requirements -Response to explosive devices - Verbal skills - Safe firearms handling skills in team dynamics
Students are required to bring:
Eye and ear protection, Duty leather, Duty flashlight, Soft body armor, Ballistic helmet, if available. Ballistic shield, if available,
Do not bring weapons, you will be using simunition handguns for the scenario training
Comfortable clothing and boots suggested (fatigues/BDU’s Suggested)
Note: Students will participate in multiple exercises and can expect to get dirty. Water to drink during tactical exercises
