Course Content: This course will consist of a review of the following topics:

Use of Force policy review

Proper methods to prepare for physical exertion (Stretching)

“Control Tactics” such as Basic holds to include the Straight arm control, Rear wrist lock, Pressure counter pressure

“Take downs” such as Straight arm takedowns, Rear waist take down

Handcuffing methods used while standing and on the ground

Officers will practice working with the “Taser Officer” and handcuffing “under power”

Officers will participate in various scenarios identify the level of appropriate force

Instructor Information:  

Matt Kilnans has been with the Oregon Police Department since 2006. He is a member of the ILEAS Region 2 Mobile Field Force and is a certified Master Arrest and Control Tactics Instructor with the Police Training Institute, along with being a certified Taser instructor and a Field Training Officer.
