COURSE CONTENT: This class will supply officers with an introduction to the necessary aspects of conducting safer and more effective street stops. It will include information on the current court decisions governing consent, or probable cause stops, and the types of searches involved. Officers will receive guidance on conducting various forms of interdiction investigations. Some of the information will involve:
· Canine considerations
· Probable cause vs. reasonable suspicion
· Live video presentations of street stops
· Recognizing indications of criminal activity
· Hotel/Motel Investigations
· Introduction to parcel investigations
· Vehicle search techniques and hidden compartment overview
Topics include:
- Intro and the Desert Snow vehicle approach
- Common criminal indicators
- Roadside interviews
- Consent vs Probable cause searches
- Money Laundering/cash evidence overview
- Common vehicle concealments
- Other commonly used trafficking methods

Biography
Ron Hain is a 1994 graduate of St Charles High School and he has an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. He has served in law enforcement since 1996 and has been with the Kane County Sheriff's Office since 2003. Ron has worked in varying capacities; to include narcotics officer, canine handler, SWAT Team leader. He developed, implemented, and supervised the Sheriff Office’s Criminal Interdiction Team.
Ron is a nationally recognized expert in interstate criminal and terrorist interdiction. He is also a national lead instructor for Desert Snow Criminal Interdiction Training, the Director of Marketing for Relentless, LLC, and is the author of "In Roads: A Working Solution to America's War On Drugs" (under the pseudonym Charles Haines).
Ron has received five meritorious service awards and two Officer of the Year awards for several successful major criminal investigations. He also received the nationally presented "Relentless Award" in 2013 for his work in criminal interdiction.
In his career, Ron Hain has seized over 4,000 lbs. of black-market marijuana, over 100 kilograms of cocaine and heroin, and over $3,000,000 in illicit currency, along with hundreds of illegally possessed firearms associated with those crimes.
