2 hr. presentation 10:30 am - 12:30 pm

COURSE CONTENT:

This presentation will use the Search and Seizure Case Digest.  Discussions will include the latest Illinois and Federal cases dealing with Search and Seizure. 

Specific topics will include:  

  • Questioning during and after a traffic stop;
  • Drug dog use;
  • Wants and Warrants checks;
  • Consent searches;
  • Probationer searches;
  • Searches of vehicles;
  • Exigent circumstances searches; and many other related topics. 

Numerous cases that illustrate each of these areas will be presented. The evolution of these various areas of concern for Law Enforcement Officers will be analyzed and future trends will be discussed. Copies of the Search and Seizure Case Digest and other related digests will be available.

If you are registering for a distant learning class, you must access the registration via the training calendar.  The calendar view will allow you to first select which classroom the officer(s) are attending.

 

Students will be sent the login information one week prior to the class, along with the handout

Guidelines to participate

  • The student(s) must be in an office or training room where they will be “attending” the class and not interrupted by phones, walk-ins, etc.
  • It is up to the agency to determine how many of their people are allowed to sit together
  • We understand emergencies do happen and people have to run out. If a student misses more than 10% of a class we cannot give them a certificate 
  • The two hour session MAY NOT contain any official breaks
  • Everyone must be considered “on-duty

 

To ensure proper participation

The sign-in QR code will be displayed on the screen around 10 minutes prior at the start of the class and then taken down

The evaluation QR code will displayed at the end of the class / An evaluation must be received from a student in order to receive credit for the training session.

Students will be required place their PTB number on their evaluation form in order to receive a certificate / the officer will not be identified with any comments they may submit on the form

 

TO PARTICIPATE:

  • Agencies outside of the MTU1 member region will be allowed to participate at the MTU1 member rate stated under costs
  • Registrations will be done on the MTU1 website and it is assumed an agency has the equipment to participate
  • Any no shows without canceling prior to the class will be invoiced
  • Handouts will be emailed a week prior to training.

COST

  • Class minimum of 10 students = $20 per student – with no maximum
  • The $200 instructor fee will be prorated per the total attendance.
    • The maximum per student cost is $20

Equipment

All you need is a laptop or desk computer to connect to the internet

  • A camera and microphone are preferable but not mandatory.
  • The system you log into will allow you to call a number and be in verbal contact with the instructor if  you have a question.
