It is likely more aquatic pediatric, abuse, punishment, sexual assault, and homicide are being missed than caught for a variety of reasons including lack of training and awareness about aquatic crimes, few or no obvious injuries, lack of evidence-based aquatic incident investigation standards and best practices, staged homicides and illness misinterpretations, offender manipulations, and perpetuation of myths and incorrect information.

Training Objectives:

  • Types and dynamics of aquatic crimes against children. Types of offenders and offender motivation.

  • 17 Reasons why pediatric aquatic crimes are easy to misdiagnose. Asphyxiation physiology & challenges of misdiagnosing cause and manner of death.

  • Case Histories teach us what questions to ask, and what evidence to document.

  • Importance of multidisciplinary teams-each discipline’s roles in pediatric aquatic abuse cases and how all disciplines can work together for the best outcome.
